My Plea:
For the past four years I have had the privilege to work as a Specialist Bereavement Midwife. Caring for women and their families in circumstances of baby loss is where my passion lies, ensuring families are provided with high quality, seamless care in these devastating times. I care for families in our bereavement suite which includes a home from home room and a nursery. Families can also spend time with their baby in the hospitals time garden, a beautiful and private outdoor space. I provide support and information from the moment a diagnosis is made, through labour, postnatally and provide home visits. I help with vital memory making for parents by organising photographs and providing mementos such as hand and foot prints as well as hand and foot castings. I have also been working with the National Bereavement Care Pathway to ensure a standard of care is achieved not only in maternity but also across the hospital and nationwide. I am able to provide support in subsequent pregnancies by attending scans and appointments. I also provide training to our student midwives, midwives, new doctors and maternity care assistants enabling them to feel better prepared in caring for our families, helping to create memories and completing all necessary paperwork. I know I can never take the pain away but I hope that in providing the right care, parents feel safe to create precious memories and can begin to grieve.

About Jo – Well, you couldn’t be in better hands at such a devastatingly heart-breaking time. She’s sensitive and ‘strong’. There’s an ‘air’ about her. She’s your Guardian Angel, specially there….for you.
I don’t know how she does it but that’s how much she cares. No one puts themselves in that position of suffering the sadness alongside a bereaved mother, father, family lightly but she knows that they desperately need to be supported and she’s the brave brave girl to take that on her shoulders. Hence why I think she should be recognised.
She’s been right there at the forefront with Monica too, in support of the National Bereavement Care Pathway. I have so much respect and admiration for her. She doesn’t do it to get Awards but she absolutely deserves an Award. Midwife of the Year

Jo is one of the most amazing, compassionate, supportive, friendly & wonderful people I have ever met! When our son Ellis was stillborn in June of this year, I knew I would have to give birth to him but without Jo by my side I don’t think I could have got through it. She kept me going, made me feel safe and allowed me to do things my way, she was just amazing and I will be forever grateful to her and for the way she was to me, my husband, our beautiful baby boy and our entire family. She’s one of a kind, a true angel and an absolutely extraordinary, selfless person. ?
